British shipbrokers and investment agencies took part in a Shanghai seminar on coordinated development of shipping and financial industries in Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone.
Representatives of Maritime UK, the UK Department of International Trade, and Maritime London joined the seminar.
A group of international shipping organizations and shipbrokers, including Maritime London, announced their plans to open offices in the zone.
During the seminar, the Chinese Ministry of Transportation signed an agreement with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers to jointly run training programs for Chinese and British shipbrokers.
The parallel development of shipping and financial industries has contributed to the prosperity of Britain. Shanghai can learn from Britain’s experiences through exchanges, the Chinese officials said.
The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers is the professional body for all members of the commercial shipping industry worldwide. The Institute was founded in 1911 and awarded a Royal Charter in 1920.
Maritime UK is the promotional body for the UK maritime sector which covers shipping, ports, marine and maritime business services, while Maritime London is a non-profit trade association for shipping service companies.
